Most people refer to the centipede as the invert ebrate with 100 legs, but in reality the number of legs that they have, ranges between 20 to over 300 legs. One of their primary key traits are their venomous claws on their heads, which they use to paralyze victims. They are normally a brown to red colour and vary in length of about 4 mm to 300 mm long. There are 8000 species of centipedes all around the world, and they can be found in numerous environments, from tropical rain forests to deserts. In North America they prefer dark, moist areas and can be found in secluded areas, such as the basement, bathroom, and closets. Most of them are carnivorous and feed on insects, spiders, and other arthropods. Signs of infestation would include seeing them scurry around.
